I read and heard on the catholic radio, the catholic hierarchy, proclaiming that the book of genesis, specifically creation, is wrong.
I read and heard on the catholic radio that the coming of Christ is figurative instead of literal, this is a little more accepted by some religions like the church of Christ.
Catholics, do assume the hierarchy is right because of their title or do you agree with it?
If your not catholic then please dont answer.

I'm certain that scientific evidence has proven the stories of creation to be wrong. People put too much faith into the Bible. I don't regard the Bible as a sole authority on faith. God trancends all things human, like language. A book can never capture the essence of God. Think about it.

The Catholic Church neither teaches nor condones the teaching that "Genesis is wrong" or "The Book of Revelation is wrong". If you heard such claims, then those who made them (whether or not they claimed to be Catholic) are not teaching the doctrine of the Church. Or else maybe you just mis-interpreted what was being said (for example, by taking their words too literally when they were not necessarily speaking at the literal level). You should look at the CONTEXT of what was said, not just the words. That is the greatest error today with people who accuse the Catholic Church of whatever it may be: they look at the words in a literalistic sense, and isolated from the context. I am not accusing you of this; I am just saying that maybe it would be good to look at the broader context of what was being said rather than just focussing on the words.

Good luck in your search.

Many Christians including Catholics do not take the Bible literally.

I agree that the Bible's story of creation is religious truth but not necessarily historical fact.

The book of Revelation was mostly a commentary written about Rome in the time it was written. The man identified as 666 was Nero.

Jesus chided the Pharisees and Scribes about not taking the Holy Scriptures too literally. One example is when the Jewish leaders said that the Holy Scriptures said that nothing could be done on the Sabbath, Jesus disagreed saying the Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath.

Catholics do believe Jesus will come again in glory but not necessarily the way Christian fundamentalists describe it from the books of Daniel and Revelation. As it says in the Nicene Creed for 325 AD. "He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end."

With love in Christ.

The Church never said it was wrong they have said that they see no conflict between it and Creation. God often talks in parables or simple ways to us. Do you believe people back when this was written down could understand it written in Scientific Terms? We still can't.I am a Catholic and I am not saying I believe or disbelieve in evolution only that it makes no difference to my faith. As for Christs return I do not know where you got this but the Churches position has remained unchanged He will return.And we Catholics do think for ourselves.

The modern Catholic Church does not reject science. They understand the creation story to be allegorical. As for The coming of Christ, that is interpreted literally. If you heard someone say otherwise, either 1.) they were not really Catholic or 2.) you misunderstood.

So to review:

Creation= allegorical interpretation
Christ= literal interpretation
