Just because I'm a baptist means I'm going to hell? Does that mean I don't jut have to believe that Jesus saved me from my sins?

Where exactly is this clause that says I must be a catholic to go to heaven?

As a Catholic, I have never said that you are going to hell because you are not "one of us". I believe that God will judge all accordingly, and me saying you will go to hell is not right.

I agree with Julia, I hate it when people tell me, a Catholic, that I am going to hell because I am not Baptist or SDA, or LDS, or whatever

No one had the knowledge to send anyone to hell - that is up to God.

Like most religions, many Catholics believe that the sects that broke away from the church actually distort the word of God and therefore are heretics bound for hell. Just ask which Bible version is the best and watch how many deride some versions as "so-called Bibles" and "perversions of truth". Protestants came to be, because they thought the Catholics were wrong and too set on rituals. Catholics thought the rituals were necessary for salvation. Fights ensued. Many still hold the grudges and take it out on others by ringing the "You're Going to Hell" Bell any time they can. But this happens in any religion where there is a difference of opinion. If there is room for doubt, there will be sides to choose. Invariably, someone thinks you chose the wrong side and means to tell you about it.

Yes. There are people in the Baptist church that say Catholics are going to hell. Some people think Methodists aren't saved. Some people think there is no hell and hate anybody to tell them about it. I just hate hate. I've been with all three and I don't hate any of them . Jesus said , leave them alone, if they're not against us they're for us.

Whoever says that is in contradiction with Catholic teaching. The Catholic Church teaches that all people of good will who follow their conscience go to heaven.
But whoever knows it for a fact that the Catholic Church is the one, holy Church founded by Jesus Christ and does not act accordingly, will not go to heaven. Although the ultimate answer lies in God's mercy...
And yes, you have toi accept Jesus as your personal saviour, if you know about Him...
I think most Baptists I know will probably go to heaven. They are very sincere Christians...

The Catholic Church does not teach that only Catholics will go to heaven.

About non-Catholic Christian Churches, the Catholic Church states, "Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth" are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: "the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements." Christ's Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church. All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him."

With love in Christ.

The Bible clearly state that whoever confess with their mouth that Christ is the Lord and their Savior will be saved. Be a catholic to be saved was invented by a catholic dictator or king.

The catholic you talked to is confused (like most of them). They have it backwards again. -they are the ones going to hell.

EDIT: Wait a minute-that was ugly! There are some Catholics who are going to heaven-those who are born again (a minority). There are some Catholics who actually believe that their church is a Christian church. This is not true. Most conservative Theologians call the Catholic church a pseudo-christian cult. I agree.

Yes, I do.

And I hate it even more when someone says that you're going to hell because you ARE Catholic.

Yes, there are Christians out there who believe that.

That's funny... I don't think I've ever heard such a thing from a Catholic. I do, however, hear it as a constant refrain... almost like a persistent background noise... from certain Protestant denominations.

I think you are prevaricating.
