I went through the same exact situation about a month ago. My girlfriend and I had been dating for two years and two months when I met another girl who seemed to be a really cool person. That's when I made a very big mistake, because I broke up with my current girlfriend (though not for the other girl, it was because of some other issues which weren't my girlfriend's fault) and started dating the other girl about a week later. I'm now regretting breaking up with my girlfriend in the first place. It's an infatuation, you should stay with your boyfriend.

Email him. Talk to him will make him proud, which is not a good idea.
When he comes to you with that email, you still have the better position, accept him or refuse him, by claiming the intension of that email.
