Techniques? Additives? Any McGuyver-style inventions to keep your ketchup from getting the nasty crust on top of the bottle, and the watery goo from falling into your food. Also, any ways to speed up your pour?

1) Wipe the top - each time you use it - no crusty build up.

2) SHAKE the bottle before use - it will mix up the watery goo.

3) Store the ketchup upside down in the frig for eash pouring - there is even a gadget that helps if you are unable to prop it up.

The watery goo will always be there- shake the bottle first and you won't get it on your food. If you're concerned about nasty crusties, wipe the top of the bottle with a wet papertowel before recapping. Oh- and if you're using Heinz 57 in the glass bottle you should tap the 57 firmly with the heel of your hand to get the ketchup to come out faster.

First don't be so sloppy with the ketchup bottle. Don't let it get all over the top as much as you can help it. It shouldn't get too crusty in a resonable lifepan of a ketchp bottle (month?) If so wipe it off with a tossable paper towel and try not to hurl!
Shake it up before you use. Lots of things seperate if they haven't been used for a bit. You have to stir sour cream and cottage cheese sometimes, right?

To prevent from getting the watery mess when you go to pour, shake up the bottle. I have yet to master the technique of speeding up a slow pour of ketchup.

remove crust with knife. don't touch the crust! close it, then shake it until it's all mixed up. don't try to speed up your pour. just keep singing "Anticipation" by Carly Simon. enjoy!
