I'm opening a preschool in a few months. I have all the right materials: toys; books; a blackboard; and a place for it. I lived in a town nearby for many years, then we moved here. In my prior town, my friend and I had opened a preschool together. We had a sucessful business, because we were the only preschool in town. But here there is one more preschool. I have three enrollments so far. The preschool starts in September, about two months away. Please give me some sites and good advice from your own experience or other. Thanks, and please hurry. Yours truly, ...

Ever since I became a mother, I have always wanted to open my own preschool. The one thing I would make sure I do is understand the parents, help them feel the children are their main priority and are given the best care.

If you are charging for services, I would bring the price down $5 - $10 dollars. It doesn't sound like much, but daycare is expensive and I'm sure any parent would go for that!

Try to get a hold of some of the parents from the other school and see what they would change. Make those changes in your school.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Crash Course by Chris Whittle
* How to Market Your School : A guide to marketing, public relations, and communication for school administrators by Johanna M Lockhart

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
