It suppresses the immune response. Usually allergy problems are due to the immune system's response to something it thinks is a problem when it really isn't. An example is when your body thinks pollen is bad and thinks it is a virus. You want the body to attack and destroy the virus, but the pollen is harmless but try telling my nose that.
