the cops have been to my job,, my home, 4 times in one week. my son has been living with his dad for the last 4years in another state. he was just down visiting and we argued, he left a week prior to this event. the cops keep trying to accuse me of using narcotics, searching my purse, asking "how many meds do u take?" wich has nothing to do with finding and arresting my son. i feel they are harrassing me and have no legal grounds to invite themselves into my home and search my belongings without a warrant. please advise. thanks,

You are absolutely correct. If you have the money, get a lawyer. Otherwise contact the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). They make a career out of enforcing the Constitution, as written; and somewhere in there, I forget the paragraph, it clearly states that cops aren't allowed to dig through your purse.

Do not open the door for them. Consider a tape recorder, or better still, a hidden video camera to record them coming in over your objections. An arrest warrant merely gives them authorization to take your son into custody, not to search your purse.

There are too many people in America today that think nothing of rolling the Constitution up into a tube and trying to jam it up our collective ***. It has to stop. The ACLU may choose not to represent you in court, but there's no better source to reintroduce you to your rights as an American.

Absolutely not legal. They can’t even search your house without a warrant because if they find anything, they can’t even use it against you in court. The next time they come over, don’t open the door all the way and say “do you have a warrant?” and if (probably when) they say “no,” say, “Then I can’t let you in until you have one.” Chances are they might not even be back after that because it seems as though you have nothing they could want for what they are looking for. For more information, do a search on people’s rights and the police. Hope this helps some.

Is the full story being told here? It's hard to know.

So it may be time to take a trip down to headquarters and file a harassment complaint against the police officers who are visiting you inappropriately (at work?), frequently (4 times in 1 week - how many times total?), as well as asking you ludicrous questions like "how many meds do u take". . .for "your" situation has little to do with your son's apparent legal problems (although. . .sadly. . .this is how some kids get their drugs).

Keep your complaint short and 100% accurate. . .DO NOT STRETCH THE TRUTH. . .and keep a brief, written record of what happens (who, when, what was said and done by all parties, etc.)

And "after" you file this written complaint. . .then. . .next time. . .they come knocking on your door. . .comply with them but also remind them that you have filed a written complaint concerning harassment and will be notifying headquarters of each visit!

(They may not leave. . .but they will be extra careful and certainly respectful of you this way. And. . .when you are at work. . .if they ever come there again. . .inform them that you need to work for a living, their presence may risk your continued employment there, and that your work hours are X to Y. . .and if they would like to make an appointment to talk with you, they can do so, provided the appointment will take place away from work during your "off" hours.)

Hope this helps!

They don't have a right to search your purse or home without a warrant. And without a warrant you do not have to let them in. That is your right. They are insistent in coming to you in an attempt (wrong way in my opinion) to get you to give your son up.

they have no right to enter your home or search your belongings unless you give them permission or they have a warrant. call the police station and put in a complaint with the head honcho there and say if they do not stop harassing you you will sue them. if that doesn't help get some legal help. don't speak to the front desk person either speak to the head of that precinct. get these officers names and badge numbers if possible.

In the words of the late , great Jerry Garcia...."If you got a warrant, I guess youre gonna come in!" If they have a warrant they can search whatever they want, especially if your son is using your address as his address....The cops will search whatever they want if they suspect you might have info leading to his whereabouts! Just cooperate...If you have nothing to hide then let them do what they want!!!

When the police come to your house, or work site and you give them permission to look in your house or purse, they can search it. If you do not give them permission to go through your personal property, they must get a warrant. However, comes the kicker. If they see, in your house or open purse, something that looks like drug paraphernalia, then they have "probable cause" to search it.

They are not allowed to come in your home without a warrant. Contact an attorney. It is called an illegal search.

They need a warrant to search your home and probable cause to search your belongings.
