No amount of money can make you TRULY happy. When I was young, our family was initially quite wealthy, were we happy? try having an asthmatic kid when you are a heavy smoker and also a closet alcoholic. Later, we were very poor, and we are not wealthy now but we are much happier than when I was a toddler and jus starting elementary school and we had whatever money could buy and big vacations to boot.

A lot of money can make you REALLY, REALLY comfortable, but happy? Happiness comes from within and is also based on WHOM you have in your life to share things with, and not necessarily what you have, possessions or moneywise. And it's not the quantity of the whom you have in your life, it's QUALITY. 1 good friend is better than a 1,000 false friends who never would give you the time of day if you were not wealthy.

There is no set number. Of course, money is not essential for most to live a happy life. However, I know what you're asking. You're asking me what's a good wage to live comfortably? Well, that all depends where in the country (or world) you live. Technically, if you worked full-time and earned minimum wage, it would be enough to support you if you spent wisely. however, comfortable living for me means owning a house, caring for a family, and having a job that's... well... much higher than minimum wage. I want my family to be comfortable. I wouldn't need much extra money for "fun stuff" or "extra stuff" but if I could afford the house, car, and everything else that was necessary, I'd be comfortable.

First, you have to define your idea of "happy".
Well... for me being happy means not having to worry.
And since you asked about money, I gather you're looking for answers that are related to costs/weath/expenses/luxury... rather than answers such as "having a loving spouse, filial children, living in a nice country with a good government, loyal friends, blah blah blah"...
So, how much is enough for me? around US$10,000,000.00.
And thats just a rough "safe" estimate.
