Muslims say that their religion is the most tolerant, peaceful, scientific, respectful of women, modern, and lots of other things. However, reality compels me to think otherwise. I find Muslims, generally, are intolerant, violent, illogical, male chauvinistic, and medieval. Perhaps, to prove their claim, they should follow their holy book earnestly. Am I right?

Sorry but you are generalizing I am a Muslim woman with an education. I hold 2 BA's in psychology and history and currently working on my PhD in history. My Muslim husband had a BS in chemistry and currently working on his CPA and MBA.
We are not intolerant seeing how he went to a Baptist college for undergrad and most of our friends are non-Muslim; including a few wiccians.
My husband is not chauvinistic because I do anything and everything I want. Because we do follow the Quran. and it says that women and men are equal in the eyes of Allah

I don't condemn all the Muslims, I have friends who are Muslims, However I have the same questions that RAY has mentioned earlier.
Why are the Muslims in the World not raising a word agains these Terrorists, I prefer to call them just that because I don't think they follow the religion. I see them as politically motivated or brainwashed people.
Please look at the stuff which RAY has mentioned and I would say Muslims across the world please come out and speak and condemn these folks so that the realy Muslims can live peacefully. Further My friend who is a Muslim says he is really Embarassed by these terrorists that he regrets being just that a Muslim, because of these terrorists who call themselves Muslims.

It seems like you are speaking about a personal situation that may have gone on in your life or some one you know.Islam is based on five principles of faith.Regardless to what a persons religion is if you don't follow the principles you are making up your own rules. You can't look at certain person or situations ,and belive thats what the reglion is about.Islam is more than a reglion it is a way of life.It must be applied to every aspect of your life.Thats one of the reasons for praying 5 times to a day.If people follow the commands of God and not the commands of self there would be no room for doubts about anything.

well i live in a country where half or maybe most the citizens are muslims and i am one of them. and i do the pray 5 times a day and read Al Qur'an juz like other religion, ex. go to church every week for christians and read their Bible, and do my daily activity and hanging out with anyone even they're from another religion. Actually I have 2 non'muslim bestfriends . What all the people in the world saw in news just the little part of muslims, and in my country we called them the extremes one. they do read the Al Quran and what they do they say it's based on it. i could say that maybe what they've done it's more extreme than what they should've done

The only tolerant Muslims are those who have the previlege to live in America.
In general however, the Islamic religion is very intolerant of Jews and Christians ; just go to any Muslim country...they outlaw even the reading of the Bible in private!
If caught you can be put in prison and even killed. Most pepole in America are unawere of this direct persecution which is common and accepted by all Muslims in foreign countries.

No, you're not right. You're prejudiced, narrow-minded, and conceited to think that your way is the right way. How many Muslims do you actually know? You know the ones that are broadcast to you through American/Jewish media. Wow, if everyone believed everything they saw and read, we'd really be in trouble.
If you really want to know what Muslims are like then go out and open-mindedly meet them and talk to them.
If I thought that all Christians were like some of the freaks that come up to me in grocery stores and push/persuade me to join their religion, then I guess I would believe like you do. But, thank God I have the intellect and understanding to know that a few people from each religion do not represent the whole.

No, the Islamic world just has a higher number of theocracies. Many Fundamentalist Christians in the U.S. are pulling in the same direction. Just imagine if that wacko rev. Phelps ran this country. The Muslim world has actually contributed a lot to western civilization, starting with numbers, preservation of ancient Greek documents, scientific theories etc. The past century hasn't been kind to them, however... mainly because of oil, I guess.

They do follow their holy book ernestly, thats why they are all those things, just like xtians. Books as old as the bible or koran are bound to have many out-dated ideas...unless it was written by an infallible god, which of course is nonsense. The problem with the "absolute truth" found in such antiquated documents, it that you can't change with the times, you're stuck, unless you admit that its not the "absolute truth" and then your whole religion/belief system falls apart. Its a vicious cycle of confusion and absurdity.

You are right that not all Muslims are perfect and should fallow their book correctly. You see their culture and upbringing gets in the mix. Like an abusive parent usually produces another abusive parent. Especially if they use Gods word to uphold their vain actions! But to tell the truth I do not know many Christians who fallow their book correctly either. I guess that proves generalization is wrong! The only true generalization is that God is great and we all fall short of him by leaps and bounds!

doesn't everyone think his/her religion is the best? it's human nature..
i believe Muslims should start thinking of Islam as a way of living that was good 2000 years ago, and stop interpreting Quran the way they want, and stop living it word by word...
if a captain was sailing in a calm sea, in a flawless ship, and the ship sinks, whose fault is it?
