It is our normal reaction to not getting hurt. The people that draw blood are used to patients that do not like getting stuck. I think it hurts more to get a shot than have a blood test drawn - cause when it is over the shot can make the muscle sore, but it is rare to have the spot where blood is drawn be sore later. To make it hurt less it is best to relax and the best way to do that is to bring a friend or family member along and have them distract you or make faces or something and just be silly. It will be over before you know it.

Tell the person taking the blood about your fear. They have something that they can spray on your skin to just numb the area a little before they put in the needle. That way you won't feel it!

They also have really tiny needles they can use. You just have to tell them and they will help you.

Gee I had to get blood drawn yesterday. I went out of there crying like a baby. If you talk to the person doing it, then you feel a little bit better. But, hey, it'll be over in less than 60 seconds. Just try your best to suck it up. Good Luck.

You need to find something to distract yourself from what is happening to your arm. Most people react strongly against needle sticks not so much due to the pain but due to anticipation of pain. You mind makes it worse than it really is. Look away. Concentrate on something else. Relax.

It isn't that painful, but I find the feeling of my blood being drained is REALLY creepy.
Don't watch, just look up at the ceiling and think about anything but what is going on at the moment. Always works for me.

Hit your toe with a brick. Your body will be so concerned with the pain on your foot it will ignore the minor pain in your arm.

Sugar if you can't do blood tests. Don't ever get pregnant.

Dont watch them stick you, just try to think about other things. Its not too bad, only stings for a second (I give blood every other month!).... I would suggest you never get a piercing or tattoo!

Its simple. First of all, realize that it will take but a few seconds. I want you to just close your eyes, think of the place you would rather be and by that time, its over.

Do breathing exercises. Inhale through your noes for 4 counts hold for 4 counts exhale for 4 counts, repeat. Otherwise - I know this is silly but bring bubbles to blow. It helps you focus on something else while you "focus" on breathing.

I know how you feel, I hate needles. They don't hurt, I just hate getting them though. I'm the conquer your fear type so I watch them as they do it. It helps me feel better about it. Just distract yourself!
