I believe that the miracles that occured 2000 years ago were to draw people to the religion, because the religion was pretty new and people needed to know and believe that Jesus was the Messiah. If no miracles were performed then no one would of believed, because in the bible it is said that the Messiah would've been born in another location (I don't want to be incorrect, but I think it was Jerusalem or Nazareth). Jesus was born in Bethlehem and grew up in Nazareth. Today, those happenings are not necessary any more because now we have the bible. Anyways, miracles occur everyday. THE BIBLE SAYS BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO DOES NOT SEE AND WHO BELIEVES.

I've actually wondered the same thing myself. If you think about it, we do not spend nearly as much time w/ God as they did. They spent hours and hours and hours every day just praying for God. They literally gave up their lives. The old Christians fasted and gave up their meals to pray. God rewarded them with miracles.

What do we do today? I maybe say a prayer in the morning. I will read a couple of chapters in the Bible. Do I really spend the time they did praying for these miracles? No. I waste a lot of time watching TV, surfing the Web, following sports when people back then were praying. The people back then didn't have the distractions that took time away from praying. That's the difference.

dear Patrick H: miracles are still happening in this time, in our world 2006. God is working through all of us to continue the practice of calling us to love him, to serve him, and to praise him. I don't know where you are, but perhaps a step into a church to find your miracles would be a good thing. The examples in the Bible are written for us to grasp as truth and translate what the meaning is for us today. If you are not experiencing miracles in your life, then that would be something for you to work on? Learn, educate, talk to folks who are transformed to a gentler life, who are having these experiences. It's not crazy magical stuff, it is real. Miracles are happening.
Are you living in a world where the sun rises and sets, the moon is ordered, the air continues to move, wind is on, not off. You look where you are and see!

No ocean parted, it was the Red Sea. And it was a few more thousands of years before your "2000 years ago" claim. Jesus, the Son of God, was able ot walk on water. One of His disciples, Peter, was able to take a few steps on the water until his faith gave out and he stared to sink. We don't have the faith like they had back then. Miracles happen today only in smaller forms.

wow there's a lot of really bad answers here (scott c notwithstanding). to anyone who is not a mindless sheep of the flock the bible is not meant to be taken literally. it is a 2000 yr old (older for the old testament) document that has been changed, frabricated, and edited to suit the needs of those who wield it. the bible is a series of parables. many of them exaggerated. think of it like a massive game of telephone. if you weed through all the nonsensical mumbo jumbo and read the bible for its themes and meanings there's actually some great stuff in there. the 'crazy, magical stuff' is just people's way of honoring those who helped them in a time of need.

It was not parting of ocean. It was parting of River Nile in Egypt. All those miracles were done by the will of God for that time when people did not have any other way to believe the message of Prophets.

possibly it ought to help in case you've been to outline magical powers for us. Do you propose the Criss Angel levitation style, the Moses parting the sea style or the form that myself and my fellow Wiccans/Witches education? (by the way, in case you meant the spectacular style, you've spelt it incorrect, it is magick). also in case you've been to study up somewhat extra you may locate that the learning of magick is actual older than 2000 years and that with the introduction of Christianity, we were forced underground. in the present day we are nevertheless forced to education contained in the darkness, purely no longer in tombs and shadows. The type of those who will imagine i'm loopy upon reading my answer is each and every of the data mandatory to do not forget that the darkness that we education in now's the self inflicted and frequently solitary life that we'd want to stay in to live on in mainstream society.

We've traded the types of bullsh*t we are willing to believe for other types. For instance, 2,000 years ago it was pillars of fire, demons in pigs, and so on. Today it is being gay is wrong, zygotes are people, Terri Schaivo just needs some time to get better, the world is 6,000 years old, etc. I guess believing in horsesh*t is alot like fashion - styles change.
