Did he think he was joining the Boy Scouts when he signed the dotted line? In my Navy opinion, I hope the Marines never change. They're some of the most dedicated, loyal and motivated people it's been my honor to come in contact with. It's not too often you get the privelegde to meet men who are willing to die to bring back one of their brothers, not because he's a friend, or black or white. But, because he's a fellow Marine. Semper Fi to all my Marine friends and brothers in arms out there!

Will the Marines ever change, we have already gotten too soft! It is still a culture shock, but he will fall into a routine soon, just tell him to keep his head up.

Actually they have changed.. and if you ask me they changed for the worse...

They used to be a lot tougher on recruits.. I went through marine boot camp 11 years ago, and it wasn't as tough as it was or should be....

The Marines are making men for combat. . maybe your pansy a ss nephew shouldn't be there if he is afraid to get yelled out.. maybe if his parents raised him correctly he would have a back bone and be able to take it....

Well it's called discipline. Which most of this society lacks know a days. They teach you how to respect and the chain of command. It's one of those things that should be taught by parents not in the same way but overall.

Great! That's the way it's done - they "knock you down" to "build you back up" - the military way. He needs to tough it out - it gets better with each passing day - tell him to just go with the flow...do what you're told.
