Modern democratic law is made by people who use their heads, at least some of the time. They know the world they live in and see it change day in and day out. Thats the beauty of being able to change things. When a law becomes outdated, it goes away. When the people don't want a law, it can go away. In the Islamic laws of the Quran, there is not changing, no arguing, no discussion on what would be right for the peole of today. It would be like the West still going on the doctines of Ancient Rome. The ability of a society, just like anything else in the world, to adapt is its key to success. Islam has not adapted, and thus the countries living under fanatical muslim leadership do not do so well on the world scale. The only thing many of the countries have of any interest to world at large is oil, and that won't last forever. May be time for Islam to adapt a little...

I think that using the word "superior" is ignorant of you, and makes you seem bigoted. This is from an atheist, not a Muslim to boot.
Are Canadian laws better than American laws because Canadian laws offer more personal freedom in the areas of abortion or gay rights? Are European laws superior to North American ones because of the distinct liberal attitudes towards nudity or towards more "vulgar" language on television? No. Laws are relevant to the cultures that create them, and none are superior. I do not intend this, however, to mean that arbitrary detention without charge as used by dictatorships or the US government (for "terrorists") or summary executions can be accepted.
The laws outlined in the Qur'an were written in the 700s AD, drawing from both Jewish and Christian traditions and holy books. The teachings of prophets such as Moses and Jesus are included in the book.
The "modern 'democratic' laws" were written as early as the late 1700s, continuing since then in the 'democratic' countries of the West.
The world changed over the thousand years that lapsed between the writing of the Qur'an and the foundation of the Constitutional system in Britain, the first semi-democratic nation, which was later followed by the pseudo-democracy of the early United States.
It is not that the laws of the modern west are superior, but that they were created in different times and cultures.

For the most part, they were written a 1000 years ago and are considered barbaric by today's civilized culture.
You are guilty and the trial is just a formality. Even if you did win the trial your family is expected to appease everyone else's thirst for blood.
Shari'a law had it's time hundreds of years ago, it is time for the Islam to become become apart of of the 21st century.
In this century:
Women have the same rights as men.
People can change religion without threat of murder.

For the most part I "think" Shari'a is in place to scare uneducated adherants.

Democracy usually means you get to voice your opinion on the law... vote for or against. Where as with a Theocracy, whoever is the leader of that time interprets the text and then deals out punishment as he sees fit... rather than allowing freedoms for those he is ruling over.

This makes me so glad I do not live under a theocracy.

The fact is Qur'an laws are perfect where social system is much more fair than the prevailing democratic laws. You talk nonsense without any proper knowledge about Qur'an.
