A beautiful black cat (about 8months old) recently showed up on our doorstep. We are not allowed to have pet in our apartment. She sits outside the door crying for hours. The minute we open the door she darts inside. We haven't been able to find the owners and from what I understand the shelters are too full to pick her up. The best they said they could do was spay her then bring her back, which doesn't really do me any good. She is a beautiful sweet cat I just can't keep her. Any suggestions? All smart aleck, animal haters may refrain from answering.

This is a tough one. Maybe you could put an ad out in the newspaper. Maybe just keep her until you can find someone who can take the kitty in. Maybe try pet finder.com. Best of luck!

Several newspapers will let you run a "found animal" or even a free animal ad for free. If the shelter won't (or can't) help you, then you have some very limited choices. You can put water and food outside your apartment. If noone answers the ad, then you can try to find a home for the cat with your family/friends. You really don't want to break your lease by sneaking the cat inside, it may cause you to lose your security deposit. Check with the landlord and see if they will make an exception if you agree to pay down a high deposit. Some landlords like cats but not dogs. Still, if you can't find a home, and you can't take it inside, you can leave it outside. If you leave it outside, let the shelter spay her. If you don't want to leave her outside, you may have to move to keep the cat. I know this isn't the advice that you want to hear, but it's the best I got. Hope it all works out.

You could try to find her a good home. If you know someone with a large yard that the cat can live in, that might be just right.
You should really try to get her fixed because this one sweet cat can turn into 8 in just a short time.
Also when you do get her fixed you might be able to show the shelter/vet how sweet the cat is and that might help the cat find a home.
Shelters don't want stray/farel cats but stray/sweet cats they can find homes for.
Please get the cat fixed soon, she is getting old enough that it could start to be a problem.

you can take care of her outside.

contact the shelter and spay her so she won't get pregnant and just take care of her outside.

buy her cat food put water and food in your yard also get her a place to sleep in.

i don't thing your landlord will be mad about that.
also try and ask your landlord if there is any chance he can make an exception.

you can always ask family members or friends if they would like to adopt a cat.

Maybe you can sneak her into your apartment for a week or two while you find her a home. It is a good idea to let them spay her first. You can put an ad in the paper to find her a home.

lie to your landlord ^.^

post up pictures of the cat and see if anyone has lost her. hold on to her, if after a month noone claims her than it's safe to say that she's either a stray or unwanted, you may consider getting an animal friendly apartment.

Put up signs for a free cat to a good home, or an ad in the paper. I'm sure someone will want her. :)

Good luck.

indoor cats are relatively quiet, and as long as you keep after them (clean, etc..), no one will even know you have one. I've done it. Just keep her from jumping up in windows and you're golden. Try pine cones in the windows.. cats hate the smell.

Will your landlord really find out? I had three cats hidden in my last apartment.
