Don't know why it's so hard when it's honestly needed. I know some people on SSI, and they're only on it because they literally just don't want to work.

I would like to know how come their applications for SSI aren't checked to make sure they are giving valid reasons, before they get their handouts.

Once, when I was between jobs, and my unemployment ran out before I got a new job, I tried to temporarily get welfare's medical coverage. I would certainly never just stay on such a program since I'm able to work...it was just until I found a new job because some prescriptions were too much without coverage. The representative told me that I didn't qualify because I didn't have a kid. I was like, "Sorry, but I don't believe in having kids, just to get government help."

So I totally agree with you. The wrong people definitely do get handouts just a bit too easily. You sound like you would definitely deserve the help in your case.

Well if you get hurt by society then the government pays for their actions? say you get shot by a gang member or run over by an old blind lady then you are subject to get help from Unlce Sam. Other than that you are known as a good strong citizen.

This sir, is why I am a republican. I have no expectations of our government when it comes to my health-care, disability, retirement or anything else. My social security, government assistance or disability is NOT in my financial plan. Whenever you add bureaucracy to a program...it is screwed. Your question ought to be proof for that.

I am a strong advocate of PERSONALLY owned disability insurance, long term care insurance and a retirement plan.

Because you have to be willing to sit around for years doing nothing living like a bumm before it all gets approved. Most hard working self respecting people can't and won't do this.

I agree. There are a lot of people who take advantage of disability benefits. That kind of fraud makes it much harder for people who really need it to get it.

If you are helping someone get benefits (or yourself) stick with it. Get the doctor's office to help you and contact (the person who needs the benefits) local department of social services. They have advocates who's job it is to help someone who is legitimately disabled get the help they need.

Good luck!

I think that's the problem the system is so bogged down and it's been abused so much. Like you said, it ends up hurting those who honestly need it. I hope you can work things out, take care.

Because our system is messed up! They make it way too easy for people to be on welfare and what not so those that really need it have a harder time getting the help they need!

I can't answer that, but you are 100% correct. I know many people on disability, and none of them really need it. They are all moochers.

Maybe in the afterlife they will be our slaves. I console myself with that thought.
