Did you install the driver first? You MUST install the driver before you connect the camcorder the first time. Failure to do so can lead to major hardware driver hassles.

Download the driver for your camcorder from the Panasonic website.

Make sure you have directx 9.0c installed before you install the driver then reboot your computer.

then install the software. Reboot your computer.

then power your camcorder up and connect the USB cable.

If you are lucky. The install wizard will recognize the camcorder and install without any input from you. If you are not then you have to force it to look where the driver is already installed and not let it try and find a driver on it's own. Be sure to uncheck any and all boxes and point it to a specific directory for the driver. hit the browse button and find the "c:\windows\inf" directory. that will force it to look where the driver is already installed. Hopefully that will work. If not then you will have to find all the drivers that XP thinks works with this camcorder and uninstall them.

If you have an IEEE 1394 port (Also known as an i.LINK S400 and FireWire 400) on your camera and PC, get an IEEE1394 cable, hook it up, and set your camera to "PLAY". It works with most DV camcorders (At least SOny and JVC models). You don't need specific drivers in Windows XP. To edit them, when you insert your camera, your computer will ask you what you want to do the camera.
