My trouble areas are the lower ab and the love-handle (above my hip bone). I feel like no matter what I do, the fat is not going away. Do you have any good tips/moves that can help me see faster/better result?

Get on your hands and knees...place one arm out and hold your balance for 10 secs...than the other arm...then each leg....once you get the hang of this try one arm w/ the opposite leg. This will work your core(all around your middle including lower back) without putting to much pressure on your back. After your warmed up you may want to try the superman. Lay on your tummy and hold your arms out like superman add the legs if its comfortable. I'm assuming you weren't doing the reverse crunch properly...if you think you were you may want to see a doctor to make sure everything is OK. Good luck.

When doing reverse crunches, be sure that the small of your back is pressed into the floor. This also means that you keep your abs tight throughout the movement.

You definitely want to avoid making your back hurt as you can really give yourself long-term damage.

You may want to consider doing regular crunches until your abs get strong enough to handle the load of reverse crunches. Also, be sure your crunches don't turn into sit-ups, which can also be tough on your back. When I do crunches, I keep my hands at my sides (not behind your head). I only go up a few inches -- my hands should only travel a few centimeters downward. You'll get a nice little contraction in your abs without risking your back.

You may be overextending the motion of the crunch. Try not to go so far up. If you have access to a rowing machine, that might be another option that's good for the back and also the arms and legs.

Crunches are a bit hard on your back, if you keep doing it, there might be permanent damage to your back and your spine... i recommend that you cut back down a few on the crunches, and do some alternative excercising and stretching.
