My Pet Rocks
I had a pet rock and I named him Hal
He was sad and lonely so I got him a pal
Life would have been grand
If I would only have kept my rocks in my hand
I got my rocks off the clean linen basket
I got my rocks off poor Aunt Fran’s casket
I got my rocks off the kitchen table
I got my rocks my sleeping sister Mabel
I got my rocks off the refrigerator door
I got my rocks off the bathroom floor
I got my rocks off my parent’s bed
I got my rocks off my kitty cat’s head
One day my mom took away my toys
And had the talk parents have with all little boys
“You must hold your rocks or get them out of your mind,

a two legged dear, a true gal pal
to teach and practice the birds and the bees

Simply because your poem is about your pet and not about her.
You didn't even mention anything about her in it.
Relationships are based on feelings.
Write a poem on your feelings about her, what is that you like about her, what is that makes her a special person.
I am sure she will like it coz you are a good poet.

This classic literature of yours is way too complicated for us to understand, I recall my early literature classes and how difficult it was for us to digest Early Nineteenth-Century Poetry, perhaps you can use simpler vocabulary and she will definitely like it.

Not a bad poem, just not a good one. Your g/f was right to dislike it. If only you had a g/f. Too bad you don't.
