I thought you had to at least have a high school or GED to sign up, has this changed? What if someone lies about their education, what will happen to them?

For the most part a GED or H.S. diploma is required. An exception in the Army's "split option" (the program my original enlistment was through, before going full time Army) In this, one can enlist in the Guard, or Reserves, at 17 and a H.S. Junior. He then goes to basic training that summer, and serves in their unit during their final year of high school. One DOES have to actually finish high school, even in this program. So far's I know, this is the basic requirement for military service.
The reality is, that even as an enlisted serviceman, you'll pretty much have to get some type of higher education, in order to advance beyond the lower ranks. Most of the service's higher ranking NCO's get a college degree while in, or get out, go to college, then re-enter after they recieve their degree. (One of my Drill Sgt.s was actually working on his PHD in psychology.)

I do believe you need a High School diploma or a GED. You wll go through some military testing usually prior to enlistment to discover your apptitude and for which job you will be better suited. The testing is not hard, 20 years ago i scored 110(think that was good, but not sure how good) I know i had the pick of pretty much whatever i wanted.

My son just joined the Army at 17 before finishing high school. He was required to take a GED class and pass the test before leaving for Basic. They also have an entrance exam (ASVAB) that requires a minimum score and your level of proficiency determines what MOS (job) you qualify for. Some branches will not take GED's, only high school diplomas.

To enlist you have to have a GED or High School Diploma. To be an officer you have to have a Bachelor's degree.

You need a HS diploma, the rules for the GED keep changing with the need for soldiers. Sometimes you can get in, other times you need college credits, sometimes in fields that have no need they can deny you. For officers you need a B.A. to get in and a Masters to make Major. They are also looking at trying to make it a A.S or B.A. for some higher enlisted positions.

All you need for any branch is a GED. ANd if you lie you can get into some trouble and maybe do some time in prison. But eventually get kicked out.

As far as I know a high school diploma is required that or a GED.

After that you have to take the ADVSAB test which will place you in a certain field of what jobs you can choose from depending on how you score.
