buddhism isn't a religion, and you don't get 'converted'...
To many, Buddhism goes beyond religion and is more of a philosophy or 'way of life'. It is a philosophy because philosophy 'means love of wisdom' and the Buddhist path can be summed up as:
(1) to lead a moral life,
(2) to be mindful and aware of thoughts and actions, and
(3) to develop wisdom and understanding.
Buddhism depends more on understanding than faith.
there's only loving- kindness, compassion, mindfulness, right thoughts & intentions, etc. in all of us. we just need to cultivate it. these good qualities does not only belong to buddhists, there are many (religious or athetists) people out there who possessed these qualities too.
How do you become a Buddhist?
In one way being a Buddhist means belonging to a particular community of people and following a path of life taught by the Buddhas (enlightened beings). Members of the Buddhist community are formally joined by taking refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma (the teaching) and the Sangha (the community of noble disciples).

Buddhism is not a religion and does not require "conversion" per se. If you are interested in Buddhism, simply look into it. Read a book or two, find some good web sites on line, talk to a Buddhist.
Buddhism is a philosophy, not a religion, and can be practiced in combination with religion. There are many Buddhists who are also Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc.

Conversion to Buddhism doesn't require any special ceremony ... you simply start practicing the religious doctrine, in part or in whole (as you find fits your life).
If you would like to visit a Buddhist temple, to ask questions/observe, Wikipedia has a list of them here :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Buddhist_temples
Check and see if there is one in your area.

Fully understand the teachings telling what the Buddha Jewel, Dharma Jewel, and Sanga Jewel really are, understand why you should take refuge in them and what the outcome of doing so will be, then do so and take your five lay vows in the proper ceremony from a qualified person.

Go to the Buddhist temple, let them shave your head, put on the orange robe, and become a monk.
The you can go build a giant golden corn cob in the sky.
Sound like fun?

Are you sure you want to turn to Buddhism?
Will you find true joy through teachings and meditations?
A religion is a serious thing and i hope you'll consider it....
Also, open up to other religions before you decide on one... you could try Christianity! =)
