I totally 100% disagree with this. all their doing is increasing the overpopulation of unwanted pets in the world. they think that if they're female has babies, then she will be sweetier and nicer. personally, I think it's the other way around. I have a 2 year old female cat whom I had spayed at 6 months and she's one of the sweetest cats in the world. they're being selfish in my opion. they want the pet to be sweeter but then they want to jeopardize innocent kits/pups futures at the same time. people ARGUE about this. it's stupid!!!!!!!!! I mean, if they want a pup/kit just go and adopt one at the SPCA or shelter. I can tell first hand that it costs less to get one there than from a breeder or anywhere else. don't make you're dog/cat go through unnessary pain just because you want a kit/pup. pets don't need to go through the process of birth, their not like humans. what do ya'll think about this, I just want opinions.

even if you can't afford to take care of your animals, there are people out there at the SPCA that will be glad to spay/neuter your pet for you.

I have personally raised, spayed or neutered over 600 cats in my lifetime. These babies came to me because of well meaning people who found the litters but didn't wait for the mother to come back or the mother was killed. Fortunately, most of them lived and have found good homes and lived good lives. All of these litters were from outside cats. Some had microchips, (the mothers) some were friendly, so you know that they had belonged to someone who didn't care any more and couldn't be bothered by spaying. A lot of men who have Tom cats figure it cruel to neuter, the "guy" thing. But, no matter the reason, there is NO reason to let a cat have a litter. It makes no difference to them, that is why they don't have sex just to have sex. If they never come into heat their bodies never experience the "loss". I had one female for 21 years and she hated the kittens that I brought in to raise. (smile) They are spaying and neutering now at about 4 months.

Enough preaching. If you are going to be responsible for the cat having kittens, then you are also responsible for finding them good homes. There are many, too many, animals at shelters all over the world, and they need homes too. To the person that is afraid of bugs and diseases, well, what can I say. People have bugs and diseases also. Most shelter animals are brought in because people can't figure out how to make their lives work with the animal in it.

Now I'm really through preaching...........Good luck

I know allot of people who will not adopt a pet from the SPCA. There are varied reasons, but the one I hear most often is being afraid of what diseases and bugs puppies and kittens come into contact with. Frankly, the only way I would bring a kitten into my home these days is if my cat Casey had kittens. However, don't think I think overpopulating is good. My cat has been fixed since she was a year old so she won't be adding to the problem.

Old timers always told me it made the animal more maternial....I always doubted it but made sure i had homes for my babies before they were brought into the world.Road Kill, a pick up from a near road kill, is the only one of my 5 animals not nutured and she(cat) stays in the house. All are my responsibility and dependant on me to love and care for them. I think alot of the trouble is the way people think and the costs (even the lowered costs now days of some vets). As for papered animals...everyone knows mutts are just as sweet and sometimes just as intelligent. They've even been known to save a life or two.Where giving birth is concerned...hey, there is pain in childbirth...if everyone ran from that known pain where would the human race be...not including the pet's race of today be? Sure gives one something to think about.

Then how do you think the SPCA get kittens and puppies hhhhmmmm..........what do you think they make them by using magic or computers. Giving birth is about the only exciting thing in life for a female cat that's indoor. How would you like to be fixed and never have children and grow up to be old and wrinkly with no one to take care of you. If it's unecessary pain to go throgh then why not we girls and women stop giving birth, unless you don't want all human race to die like you seem to want for cats and dogs.

Right now I'm thinking your the one that's selfish I mean when you grow up you're probably going to have a cat that's fixed. Then you get married and have a baby, but your cat can't because she's SPAYED!!!!!!!!!!!!! See how that makes you selfish, okay it's like buying something you promised your friend to buy, but then keep it for yourself or it's like taking the last cookie without even asking if anybody else would like to have it. If you still don't see go suck a d**k.

Animals are like people and want kits or pups like we want children. They probably would rather go through the pain than not have life without babies and litters. People saying that they own their companion are probably people who want slaves like back in 1800's . How would you like it if someone was controling your life, telling you what you can and can't do your whole ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

It's the same for some pets. I hate people like that, people who control their companions whole life or should I say pet's whole life. The fight for freedom hasn't ended because now it's the animals turn or should I say our pets or our SLAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!! My friend has fixed animals, but she still let's them go outside unlike some of you.

I think you should let them have atleast one litter should because then if we don't they will become endangered and then exctinct I'll be blaming you and all those people who never let their pet have atleats one litter.

It was a commonly head belief for a long time that animals should have one litter, so that they will be more mature when you do fix them. They are now recomending that you fix your cat about 3 or 4 months old. I don't know about that but at least there is no chance the animal could be a parent at that age. I personally have had better luck with fixing my cat after her first heat cycle, but then again she was in indoor cat.
When we got our second cat and he needed to be fixed we were unemployed and went to one of the local organizations to get a voucher and we got our cat fixed for free. There are always ways to get it done, it is one of the most important things to do to help the life of your pet.

I think that the main reason people insist on letting their pet have "just one litter" is ignorance, plain and simple. There is no reason to put your pet thru this experience. It's selfish and uninformed and irresponsible. I do think there is a place for responsible breeders in this world, but those individuals are few and far between, in my experience. People who want their pets to have just one litter, for the sake of having babies, definitely are not what I would consider responsible.

Even tho I agree with you, I think it's more a human, in particular a female, notion to let them have a litter at least once. It is in all living the purpose, to procreate and to have offspring. Also, motherhood is one of the most amazing things to experience. Therefore, I surely can understand the point of view to let them have at least once a litter.

But I agree, unless it's for the purpose of pure breeding, there is currently no reason for not spaying/neutering your pet if it's not used for breeding or food purposes.

I think it is because there is a belief that it is good for the animals body. Natural hormones are released. I'm pretty sure I read something about this in regards to humans, too. Having babies is supposedly GOOD for a woman's entire health over a lifetime. I'm sure someone out there knows more than I about this!

Or they should've grown up with my mom and her reproducing cats and had to find homes for all the kittens. That cured me into fixing my cats before they were old enough to reproduce. My mom's one remaining cat is fixed, BTW, but she is the biological mom of my 16 year old cat...she probably would've went through "kitty menopause" by now.
