You do not have to tell the landlord that you are on section 8 when you are looking. If you want the apartment and he agrees and you tell him you have section 8 and he tells you that he doesn't want you it is a violation! Some landlords prefer section 8 tenants because the rent is guaranteed. Wait untill the landlord likes you and wants you there before you spring the whole section 8 thing on him. A landlord that has a problem with the yearly section 8 inspection is probably a bad landlord with old properties that he doesn't like to fix up, so you probably don't want to rent from him anyway.
