I think 3.7 is high enough to get some scholarships. Mine is currently between 3.7 & 3.8, and goes up steadily every semester, which I noted in my scholarship application essay. I also said other positive things as to why I'd be a good scholarship candidate (future goals, etc.). But I didn't get even a few hundred in scholarship money.

Is that odd?

Just curious.

No it isn't odd because most scholarship judges look at the content of your essay and GPA doesn't weigh as much in determining whether you recieve the scholarship or not, though the higher the better. I would focus more on the essay part if I were you.

It is unusual--college admission standards are on the decline at many college, so a strong GPA and decent SAT scores usually make for a strong package of credentials. The variables in scholarship selection are many, however, (credentials are big, but so is the timing of your application, the institutional profile, the profile of an incoming freshman class, internal funding issues, etc.), and much depends on the caliber of school you're applying to. You may want to look for external sources of funding; poke around Fastweb.com and see if there are some scholarships out there tailored to your abilities.

It isnt odd, just unfortunate. The way it's working these days, with inflated weighted GPA's, it isnt easy for kids to get 4.0's or higher. Depending on which scholarships youre applying for, the GPA could make more of less of a difference. But just keep trying, and keep looking for scholarships - they're available everywhere, from local businesses to government organizations. It's a tough search, but if you're thorough enough, you could end up with a pretty penny in your pocket. Good Luck!

It is odd. I graduated with about a 3.85. This coupled with my ACT and SAT scores got me half of the scholarship I needed. Football got me the other half.

Your GPA sometimes doesn't matter. If you are entering into college, whatever you score on the ACT or the SAT matters.
