Specifically when I wipe off his bottom, he's not a happy camper. Also, he's not circumsized.

First of all, most of these responders are being incredibly RUDE! Obviously they have not had a little boy to potty train before! Have your pediatrician do a thorough exam, while you are in the room of course, to make sure there is nothing medically wrong. I agree with someone else that it is possible he is getting closer to potty training time, and holding his BM's because he is unsure and scared of the "new" process his body is starting to go through. Good luck, and ignore the ignorant comments.

Don't let everyone get on you about potty training. I am sure that you have been working on it with him. It takes time, and the child has to be ready.

About your problem. Could it be that he is saying poo poo. My son does that. While we have been trying to potty train, he started holding the poo and it would hurt when he finally went. So you may want to consider constipation. Is he having regular movements about 2 per day or at least 1. Also, does he go to a day care or is he home with you. If he goes to a day care you may want to ask him if someone is touching him. I don't mean to scary you at all, but he may be sensitive because someone is touching him.
I do agree that if this continues that you should go see a doctor. If it is constipation they can give you things to help.

Good luck!! I hope that he feels better soon.

i'd have him checked for a urinary tract or yeast infection. absent anything else internal, and since he is 3 now, you might try letting him clean himself. use flushable big-kid wipes (dry tp can irritate if the child gets too thorough), and stand by to (gently) get anything he misses when he's done.

giving him some control in the process might eliminate the tears. boys potty train a little later than girls, so he's not slow there, but now might be a good time to get him thinking about it.

good luck!

he is ready for potty training! 3 years old!!! Preschool is next year. Are you wiping too hard??? If he is not ready to potty train have him help you. Have him hold the diaper and give you the wipe. Why dont you look online for potty training info and give it a try?

Don't let people give you crap about the kid being three and in diapers. People freak about it too much; how many kids go to kindergarten in diapers? Anyway, first of all think about a urinary tract infections. Boys don't get them as often as girls, but they still hurt. If he is uncircumcised, he could also have an infection.

Ok he is 3 and he shouldnt wear a diaper. He should be using the potty. He is just trying to get your attention. He isnt hurting if he was he would complain about it at bathtime and all day if it was something that bothered him.

I think you should definately take your son to his Dr. to be checked. Suggestion- if your Dr. doesn't find something wrong on exam and has not check your under his foreskin- make sure he does. My nephew's foreskin actually grew to the tip of his penis and when it was pulled or irritated it would try to seperate and cause pain. The poor thing saw three doctors in three months before they caught it. Definately do not let this go unchecked.

You need to try A & D ointment or Crisco (in the can) it protects the skin and keeps moisture out.

Also consider potty training.
