can i completely remove my computer operating system from my computer?

Yes, you can.

But wouldn't that leave the computer as "A Paper Weight"?

You can format via boot disk (you can download them from www.bootdisk.com ). Using the windows 98 boot disk you can "Fdisk" the drive (which kills the partition table) and allows you to format it. The good thing about the boot disk is that it is loaded in a "virtual Memory" and it is not on the disk.

As long as you are using a PC yes, although you won't be able to do much with your computer until you put a new operating system on it. All you have to do is format your harddrive (if you use XP you will need to use the install CD that came with your system).

of course you can, if you don't want windows, just install linux, do a hard disk format, then windows is gone

absolutely....formatting your hardrive will do it...just make sure to copy all your personal file to removable storage.
