The Trapper keeper is a type of binder.
It came out in the 80's, and with a bang.
It featured a sliding three ring binder, it also has a special type of folder were It prevented papers from falling our the top when it was turned up side down, quite a good concept, but I've had a couple, and the three rings were plastic, and only seemed to last a couple months before breaking.

the AWESOMEST thing to come out during the 80's for school. They are most known for the wild designs on the covers...they "lock" in your school work and organize you.
A Trapper Keeper is a brand of loose-leaf binder created by Mead. Popular with students of all grades in the United States and parts of Latin America during the 1980s and 1990s, it featured sliding plastic rings (instead of standard snap-closed metal binder rings), folders and pockets to keep schoolwork and papers, and a Velcro closure. Invented March 15th, 1981, they usually came with a theme, like a cartoon or tv show (e.g. The Sonic Trapper Keeper).
In an episode of South Park, the so-called Trapper Keeper Ultra Keeper Futura S 2000 destroys the town and eventually takes over the world, and a robot by the name of "Bill Cosby" has to destroy it. This episode is a parody of the action film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the sci-fi classic 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the Anime film Akira.
The title character in 2004's Napoleon Dynamite uses a Trapper Keeper, even though the film is set in the early to mid 2000s, many years after the popularity of it waned.
In an episode of Family Guy, Meg asks Tom Brady if he can sign her Trapper Keeper.
Five Iron Frenzy sang "Junior High Schooler, with pencils in my pocket and my Trapper Keeper busted" in their song "Suckerpunch."
A main page on Homestar Runner is titled "Trapper Keeper!!" and is notepad-themed.
I dont know where to get one now...try ebay or the store.

It's a 3 ring binder. Trapper keeper is a brand that was popular in the 80's... they make the folders called trappers, hence the binder that holds them is called a trapper keeper. They still do sell them, though they aren't the popular thing they once were.

A trapper keeper was a note book from the ol'skool made by mead. I don't believe they make the "Trapper Keepers" anymore however all it is a 3 ring binder with a flap on the side. Your teacher must be from the ol'skool to still be calling it a trapper keeper! :)
Here's some background info from Wikpedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trapper%5FKeeper

back in the late 70's and the early 80's they were the thing to have. They originally came out in green, red, and blue and soon expanded. It was a 3 ring binder that had a flap on one edge that would close over the long edge of the binder and velcro shut to keep your stuff trapped. It also came with an inside pocket on the left hand side of the binder, the right had side of the binder had a clip at the top and a notepad in it. They usally came with 2 or 3 folders that matched the binder. When they caught on in popularity they started having design and art work on them. By the late 80's they were dying out and by the 90's they were hard to find. I think I actually still have a couple of the later ones.

Trapper Keeper is a name brand. The actual product is merely a souped up three ring binder where you can keep most anything you might need in class....calculator, papers, pencils, calendar, etc. They come in cool themes and colors to match your taste and personality.
