I am respectful to ALL religions, I am even respectful to people who don't believe in God, because we live in a wonderful world of free will and no one has the right to tell anyone what they believe is wrong. So why is it that whenever non-Chrsitians come across a devout Christian, he/she always tries to convert us? I am strong in my beliefs too, but I never try to convert anyone, unless they are actually interested. Even the Christians on yahoo! answers try to convert us. What's up with that?

Also... everyone believe that their OWN religion is the right one, we all know that already. What makes them believe that a few little words will change someone's mind about what they have grown up learning since day 1? Be realistic. I know that not ALL Christians are like that, I have many Christian friends and they are wonderful, and very loving people but, it's just a thought.

i'm a Christian, and while i dont try to convert every non-believer i meet, you should know that that is a fundamental part of our faith. Jesus tells us that if we DONT try to spread the gospel, then we are not truly saved.

i am sorry if you've met up with some pushy Christians who won't leave you alone about it, because i admit, they are out there, and some can be a bit too overenthusiastic . . .

i like that you respect ppl's faiths, just try to respect this part too. for a Christian, sharing our faith is about on a level with the 10 commandments, so don't feel like we're doing this on our own initiative.

really, non-believers should take it as a compliment. we Christians honestly believe that if a person hasn't accepted Christ, he/she is going to hell. i try not to wave that in ppl's faces, b/c i think that's the wrong way to go about it, but the reason we "try to convert" you is b/c we truly want you to go to heaven when you die.

i think what mostly turns non-Christians off when someone is sharing the message is that the Christian seems to be saying that you're a bad person and if you dont shape up, pray the prayer, and start going to church, you're going to burn in hell. i'm sorry if you've met up with Christians who think this is the message they need to spread, b/c it's not.

what i always tell ppl is that yes, we've all messed up, we're all sinners, I'M definitely a sinner . . . but it's never too late to wipe the slate clean. And i've found forgiveness and peace in Christ, and anyone can.

if you hold such repsect for other's beliefs, then i hope you can respect that this is PART of a Christian's beliefs, and perhaps be grateful that we want to share the joy and contentment that we have come to know.

The Bible states that believers are to go into the world and spread the good news of the redemption available through Jesus. Conversion is not mentioned, but many denominations preach conversion as the one and only way to God. The concern is based upon a belief that all who are not saved shall perish and not reach Heaven.

As far as all Christians trying to convert you, I cannot answer for all. For myself, I am a devout Christian. I believe that there is one God and many prophets and paths available to humans to come into communion with Him. I believe in a loving God who has continually sent the message of His love for humanity.

You are correct about free will. God gave us that will and delights when we choose to seek Him, through whatever path works for us.

I pray that your path is peaceful and enlightened.

Salvation is a gift from God and it is up to each of us to accept it or not. The way, the truth and the light is Jesus the Christ.

If someone tries to share the good news with you, it is a matter of love and wanting to share with you the message of salvation.

Perhaps think about it as if someone had something really tasty they were eating and asked if you wanted a bite because it is sooooooo good.

If you don't want any, cool. And the person willing to share their tasty food should leave well enough alone if the other person declines the offer.

GOOD QUESTION!...Jesus NEVER begged conversion from anyone! Or asked people,"Are ya SAVED?"...He simply told people the GOOD NEWS of the Royal Kingdom of GOD His Father and how WE may become a part of it!-But He NEVER tried to "save" anyone! Christ AVOIDED condemning others or some desperate attempt to "convert their soul"! He told people what they needed to change as far as sin,but only a FEW were actually willing to follow Him at that time! GOD is NOT judging the WORLD at this time! But He IS judging those who claim to be His followers! And those who are pushing people to be "saved" are OFFENDING MANY! They simply aren't READY YET! If GOD ALMIGHTY isn't condemning them--WHY are the REST of us? And yes--I am a Christian.

It's a matter of insecurity and desire for power. They're insecure about themselves and their beliefs, and feel better if they're in a herd. It's also an ego-boost to belong to the in-club that's got it 100% right, so by arguing with you and trying to convince you, they're really convincing themselves that they're more right than anyone else, and that makes them feel good.

On the other hand, there are actually a few holy, blissed-out people who do it purely out of love, because they're totally convinced it's the best thing for everyone. I actually like those people a lot.

Contrary to popular belief, the bible does not teach that all religions are acceptable from God's standpoint. The idea that interfaith is OK is an idea that humans have come up with on their own. The bible teaches that God does not share His glory with anyone. It teaches that there is only one true God and Father of all persons. In order for you to truly understand the answers to your questions you first need to ask yourself why should you believe what the bible teaches. Once you come to grips with that question, then you can believe what the bible teaches. The reason many Christians try to convert you is because of the fact that the bible does not teach that all religions are acceptable in God's sight. Our lives are dependant upon our obedience to Him, not upon what we feel is right or wrong. In the bible, the idea that humans can choose for themselves what is right or wrong was and idea that originated with an enemy of God, whom the bible calls Satan the Devil. Ever since he introduced this idea to humans, we have lost the peace, harmony, and paradise that God intended for us to live in.

This is actually a good question. I am a Christian, and here's what I believe and why. First Jesus never told anyone to go and make converts. He told us to go and make disciples. Many Christians believe that it is there job to make converts, but they have nothing to offer a new beleiver because they themselves aren't allowing Jesus to live through them which is what being a disciple means.

Because they believe they are the only ones in the world who have it right and they should turn everyone to god so they dont burn in hell. really in most religions it is against the "rules" to push your beliefs on people and you are only supposed to discuss them when asked, but that doesnt matter to christians.. they are pushy and irritating. Well not all of them, i have known some that know when to shut thieir mouths, but only after weeks of trying they finally give up and stop talking about it.

The nature of Christianity is belief in "one true religion"--there are only two ways, God's way, or the devil's way. The notion that there are "many paths up them outnain," as in Hinduis, Buddhism, Shinto, and most Eastern religions, is foreign to Christians.

For many denominations (Mormons, Jehovahs Witnesses [who are not strictly Christian], Evangellicals, and others) even believe that proselyting--spreading he true religion--will bring salvation to one's self.

The logic is this:
1. Christians believe in Jesus Christ as a historical and religious figure
2. Christians believe Jesus was God in the flesh
3 Christians believe in whatever Jesus said as complete Truth
4. Christians believe that Jesus is the only way to be forgiven of your sins and the only way to go to heaven.
5. Christians want to share this truth and their joy.
