Its probably time to get a new one. After awhile on older tv's the sound etc will just stop working. It would cost more to fix it then the tv is worth

If you insist on keeping the TV then here's what you can do.
Get a Home Theater system and route your signal through that instead of the TV and turn the sound off on your TV. Not only will the sound be so much better but, you'll be able to listen in 5.1 Surround Sound or at least Stereo (depending on your input signal source)
Of course, for the same about of money you will spend on a Home Theater System, you can probably buy a brand new TV with Hi-Definition picture and a much larger screen.

Repairing it would not be worthwhile, but the good news is that you can still get sound from another device. If you have a VCR or cable box plugged into the TV, simply connect the audio out (red/white RCA jacks) to audio in on any stereo or minisystem with these same inputs, and you can use the stereo speakers for sound while your TV is being used as a monitor only. This is how most home theatre systems are set up.

What's wrong? It's old so you'd better change it.. Just kidding... Well,I think the quality has deteriorated so you must have it checked by an expert. All things don't last anyway and the sound could have been overused thats why some of its parts were impaired.

I wouldnt throw it away, there could be a couple problems, either a cold solder joint, shorted final output transistor, or blown speaker. all could be fixed for a very reasonable price.
