I have at cat at my mom's house and he's about 13 years-old. My sister is moving out in about 2 weeks and we are worried that Bro is not going to get the attention that he's used to once my sister leaves because my mom and her boyfriend have a dog they pay attention too all the time. So i'm thinking about moving my cat down to my house with me and my boyfriend so he will remain in a house where he will get the attention he has always had. The only problems are my cat doesn't like to travel at all and since he's been living at my mom's house for so many years how is he going to adapt to moving to a new place all together?? Please help I love my cat dearly and am afraid that if he stays at my mom's house he's going to get sick because he's going to be left alone and on the other hand i don't know how well older cats adapt to new surroundings.

If I were you I would move my cat to be with me. There will be an adjustment period, but over all it seems like the best choice. When you bring him to your house, bring some blankets and other soft things from his current home that have familiar smells on them to soothe him. Ask your mom and sister to each sleep with an old blanket to get their smell on it, then bring it with you and don't wash it until the little kitty is settled.

Unless your cat has health problems, he should be able to adapt just fine. He might hide for a few days, but as an old kitty he really does need the attention you want to give him Just make sure he knows where the food and litter box are.

He might even decide he likes his new home better!

We tried moving our cat and as soon as he could get out the door he ran away and didn't come back. Cats don't like to move too much. I've always wondered why that is. If it's an indoor cat you might have better luck.

would your mom be ok with you taking the cat???

if it is an indoor only cat you might be ok but if he goes out he may try to return "home"
1 hour isnt that long of a drive - most cats hate drives but they survive

they can adapt - bring their bedding and stuff so they have the smells of home

I think you should move him. He'd be very lonely and sad without attention, and the dog might take advantage of his increasing age and hurt him. I'm sure he could adapt, it might take a little while but before long he'd be as happy as ever.

no matter if you pass the cat first or very last, positioned him in a unmarried room that the movers do not must be in (perchance a spare or bathing room) even as they're there so as that he won't be able to get out even as the movers are there. this may keep him from operating away or getting harm.

probably not. May cause some stress on the poor cat and cause a heart attack or something.
