When the female goes into heat she can have puppies but it is not good for her.
You should not breed a dog until she is at least 2.

Hi iam a dog breeder i only breed once a year from any of my nine dogs i can say this u wont make money off this.
theres stud dog prices food for the mum also checkups at the vet before the birth theres bedding ect pups stuff to buy that u will need for the birth and after there is also the feeding of the pups at weanin time there is also checkup at vets when pups are born and when they go for there jabs

as i have nine dogs i only breed once just to have enough money to go back to the dogs food insurance ect trust me its not worth it

the first time i breed a dog cost me £1,020 and that was before the pups were born all in i think it must have been including jabs ect £1,400

if u really want to breed look in to it and the girl has to be mature enough about 2 years good luck on whatever you choose

making pups? odd term to use. Dogs produce pups. And it depends on the breed. KC won't accept puppies to be registered to mums under 18 mths. So 18 mths to 2 yrs is the average unless you've got a small dog which can be about a year. But don't breed a dog before then as they are not fully developed.

you ask this question so I assume you are not a proffesional breeder....

a dog reaches adulthood at the age of 18 - 24 months, depending on the breed.

a 12 month dog can produce a litter but is risky.

pls do not breed your dog if you are not sure who will home the pups... a dog could have 3 - 12 puppies in one litter and trust me that is a lot of dogs !!

i have seen what happens to abondoned and misunderstood dogs and puppies.

pls also remember that cross breeding risks your dogs health

be a responsible owner and neuter your pet ....

Depends if its male or female.
Males can breed as soon as they show an interest, sometimes after 6 months for terriers, older for bigger breeds.
Females can breed at their first season; their first season is sometimes as young as 6 months which is like asking a 9 year old child to have a baby.
Reputable breeders wait until the female is 2, as this is when genetic problems show.
This is a very basic question and I'd advise you to get a comprehensive book about dog care and breeding.

Every year millions of dogs and cats are put to sleep because more are born than there are homes that want them. Pet overpopulation is a terrible tragedy and usually results in puppies and kittens being abandoned or mistreated. And it is not just mixed breeds, shelters are full of purebred dogs too. I beg you to have you dog spayed, to prevent another puppy being born unwanted. Spaying will make her a calmer, healthier and happier pet.

making pups? Its not a machine you know. I hope you having bought a dog just to make a few quid from puppies. Real breeders make very little from puppies, because they spend a good amount of money on jabs, food etc.

at 6 months but this is very risky to the mom dog -
no dog should breed until it has been to shows to prove it is an excellent example of the breed worthy of passing on its genetics... unfortunately there are too many ignorant people breeding dogs for the sake of seeing puppies... dopes
