It's not all downside.
Unions give the employees at a workplace the rights to collective bargaining, specific and consistent discipline plans, generally safer workplace conditions, better health plans, and the right to strike if demands are not met.
Unions do have their downside, but most non-automaker and non-pilot unions have been very, very good to their membership.
