I'm considering either to keep growing my hair, get it cut short or get dreads, my hairs nearly long enough for them... I'm an average white male, 21 yrs...

No, its just part of our culture though. I know a white guy in my city that has them, it's just weird to see them on anybody that's not black because the hair texture just isn't the same. I don't know how whites even get their hair to lock up with it being so fine textured. Dreadlocks for Africans, however, was once a sign of rebellion, like blatant refusal to comb your hair. It's a sign of pride and strength. It's also a part of the Rastafarian religion. Nowadays, its mostly a trend, people lock their hair and don't even know why they're doing it. Think about it first before you do it.

No dreads aren't only for black people..... But I think u should just get the hair cut, dont get dreads cuz if u start the dreads u cant get rid of them unless u cut ur hair off . So just stick with the hair cut okay.

Lots of white guys have dreadlocks. Just take a walk on some of California's beaches.

I'm not a fan of them though. Do you know how they're formed? Did you know that you can't shampoo them, and have to clean them by immersing your head in a saline solution?

I feel like it is very disrespectful for any person who does not research and understand the history of dread locks to wear them.It would be like me going around with a ya mica( Sorry , i spelled that wrong I'm sure).when i have no clue of the meaning. It is a matter of respect

No. I advise you to research the proper dreading techniques for white folks. When I dreaded my hair it was just a matter of twisting it regularly b/c my hair mattes rather quickly when it goes uncombed. White folks probably need to do alot more.

Nope - dreads are for everyone. You may want to visit a local salon though to get advice of how to make them in your hair before starting out because I have known people who have had to have their heads shaved when they wanted them out.

White folks' hair generally has to be treated or have some sort of product or wax used on it to dread, and it winds up a dirty mess. Black folks' hair generally will lock up a lot easier, and can be kept clean while doing so.

So unless you want to be a dirty hippie, no dreads.

No, but they tend to form better with black people's hair. They can look good, but then again, they can look nasty on white people's hair. If you can maintain them well, I say go for it.

mainly yes because caucasion people have very stringy hair. but on the other hand blacks have that thickness to their hair and that makes their dreads be full.
