Wow, great answers ! Truth, keeping the ends trimmed is the only permanent way to keep the split ends at bay .

You may use serums and potions that are specific to this problem for a temporary fix.

The more often you receive regular trims to stop the breakage, the longer you will notice your hair gets. Not because it grows any faster (the hair follicle doesn't know you trimmed the end of the hair), but because the breakage will stop thus allowing your hair to grow to a longer length prior to breaking off.

Good luck and keep getting those regular trims !

You need to have the ends clipped. That's the only way. The prevention of split ends is also impossible. Sure you can pamper your hair with lots of unique techniques and expensive products, but in the end it's all a waste of time and money.
Besides, It's good for your hair to have the split ends cut off. It keeps it healthy

My hair was very long and I got split ends alot. Trim them (the first time get it cut up to the "damaged area, which your hairdresser should know..... and then use a moisturizing shampoo, like the new Dove stuff.

Split ends are caused by moisture swelling the hair follicle, and by friction. To reduce them, use a post shower spray on conditioner. One that you dont rinse out. It "seals" the follicle, preventing it from swelling from humidity.
2nd thing to do is use a satin pillowcase. The friction on your hair will be reduced 90% from a cotton or poly/cotton pillowcase.

Nothing fixes them except getting them cut off.
Maybe super glue would work, tho. lol
Don't brush your hair when it is wet, that splits them like crazy. Comb it when wet. Get your hair trimmed often, even if you are trying to grow it out.
Kind of like pruning your plants, cut off the old so new can grow.
