AVG is definitely the best. It automatically updates itself too with the latest virus-protection information. Norton causes too many problems.

No single one is the "best", it's what ever you like and what ever is the easiest for you to operate.

I use and recommend all the following FREE protection programs. With AVG being my favorite anti-virus protection.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)

The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)<--English version

AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

Well it depends what you want. Free or paid antivirus. I advise you being a pc technician myself that norton antivirus causes more problems then it fixes. It uses alot of your systems resources. I'd recommend Avast Antivirus - www.avast.com. It's the best free anti virus i've come across and does a better job than norton antivirus. I hope i've helped and stopped you getting norton. Mcafee is a good paid solution if you wanna buy an anti virus software app.

I have used
McAfee, Norton and F-Secure

McAfee is by fra the slowest of the the 3 programs and requires IE as your standard browser.

Norton is OK but sometries to be clever and think for you, can be pretty annoying

F-Secure just do the job, fast and without being too clever

As many people have told you , it is called Nod32.

The beauty of it is that it not only protects you from viruses, it is real time, meaning it is running at all times, however it uses less than a tenth of the resources that Norton and the like use, so your computer does not SLOW DOWN.
