Is there a special way of folding the chute so it opens every time?
Who folds the chute before the jump?

The jumper packs his own chute. Trust yourself & do it right or it will be the last time you jump. Buy insurance & make out your will! Best of luck to you.

The same thing that makes you trust your boat..or car..or any other means of transportation. If you think about it..parachutes are a conveyance. They let you travel from point "A" (25000 feet) to point "B"..(mother earth) safely. We rely on our car to get us from "A" to "B" and our boat to get us from "A" to "B" and I'll bet in a year the average person doesn't spend as much time inspecting either as much as a parachutist does his or her chute pre-jump.
A seasoned jumper usually packs his or her own chute. Obviously..a "newbie" doesn't. I mean how could they..it's all new to them. So...my final answer is..a new jumper is placing their lives in the hands of strangers (hmmm...kinda scary) and after a while is taking responsibility for his or her own life by inspecting and packing their own chute.
The bottom line as to what makes a parachutist trust his or her chute...impirical wisdom and confidence in themselves and their equipment.

I could say the ground lol but I will not. They trust there chute because of there training, there knowledge of the chute's Packing, There overall safety inspections before any jump.
