I used to live in Florida and am well aware of the flea situation. We didn't even have carpets and they bit the dog and us to death! :) I have also heard of using garlic as a flea deterrent, but my dog would never eat his food when I put garlic on it. Still, it's always worth a try as your dog may not mind it at all. As with any natural remedy, use caution and the advice of a trusted vet; some natural remedies can do more harm than good (as in the case of too much garlic for some dogs). Below is a website with a list of flea remedies to try:

Good luck!

Ask your vet, there are special collars to keep fleas away from dogs and special shampoos for animals. I guess you're just going to have to give the dof a bath more often. That's a good idea about not using chemicals, the dogs will llick their fur and the substance will get into their system and that can be very dangerous.

You can bathe them in Ivory Soap this kills fleas. I understand your reason for not wanting to use chemicals. But goodness a good dose of Front Line Plus and your flea problems will be solved. It will not affect you and give make your animal so much more comfortable.

I have heard that garlic works as well. give the dog alittle raw garlic in some cheese or something he likes. A little every day, and As i understand it, the garlic permeates the skin, and fleas don't like it. Kinda like if a human eats alot of garlic, and they sweat, they can have a smell of garlic about them. But don't give you dog a large amount of garlic each day. Could cause a digestive upset, not to mention Stinky STINKY doggie gas.
