The misconception was introduced by many Orientalist (M. Watt was one) who equated the word "Allah" to the word "Al-ilah" (the god) onto which the idol of moon god Hubal which the arabian pagan worshipped, was called.

As you are a Muslim, I am sure you can differentiate the meaning between Al-ilah and Allah swt.

The crescent was not introduced as Islamic symbols until the Constantinapole was in Muslim's hand. It wasn't until the Ottoman Empire that the crescent moon and star became affiliated with the Muslim world. When the Turks conquered Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1453, they adopted the city's existing flag and symbol. Legend holds that the founder of the Ottoman Empire, Osman, had a dream in which the crescent moon stretched from one end of the earth to the other. Taking this as a good omen, he chose to keep the crescent and make it the symbol of his dynasty.

In recent times, with the frequent clashes between the United States and the arab world, Islam has been slandered and distorted through propoganda as a way of instilling the need / desire for Christians in the United States to oppose Muslims.

So basically it's an attempt to paint Islam negatively, much like how Communism was distorted into being thought of as "evil" during the 50s. It's the only way the controlling party (Republicans) can garner enough support for the war mongering efforts of the Bush administration.

Perhaps we should start claiming Christianity ... or at least U.S. Christians ... worship the "star god" because of the symbols on the flag.

We know you don't really worship the moon, just like you know that Christians don't worship the cross, and Jews don't worship the star of David, but many of your traditions come directly from moon worship. Mohammad retained MANY traditions of the pre-Islamic PAGAN Arabs in order to make his new religion more appealing to them, and MOON WORSHIP was VERY important to them.

For centuries, PAGAN Arabs believed the moon was the "chief" of 360 gods which were worhipped at the Kaaba in Mecca. The PAGAN Arabs worshipped the Moon-god by praying toward Mecca several times a day, running around the temple of the Moon-god called the Kaaba, killing an animal in sacrifice for the Moon-god, fasting for the month which begins and ends with the crescent moon.

Do any of these rituals seem familiar to you? Mohammad did a good thing when he replaced the 360 gods with 1 god, "al-ilah" (the god, a.k.a. Allah) but he didn't go far enough. PAGAN Arabs obviously weren't ready to give up their moon worshipping rituals, so Mohammad adapted them to fit into his new religion. Maybe that's why to this very day, you will find a symbol of the crecent moon at the mosques, and on the flags of many Islamic countries.

Peace!

lies from Islam haters they say that to misguide people that muslims pray to false God
they do not know that
The word "Allah" is simply the Arabic word for Almighty God, and is the same word used by Arabic speaking Christians and Jews. If one were to pick up an Arabic translation of the Bible, one would see the word "Allah" being use where the word "God" is used in English. Actually, the Arabic word for Almighty God, "Allah", is quite similiar to the word for God in other Semitic languages — for example, the Hebrew word for God is "Elah". For various reasons, some non-Muslims mistakenly believe that Muslims worship a different God than Jews and Christians. This is certainly not the case, since the Pure Monotheism of Islam calls all people to the worship of the God of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and all of the other prophets. However, even though Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the same God — since there is only one God — their concepts concerning Him differ in some significant ways.

Haha just ignore, them
they don't have a single solid proof about it
Even in the Qur'an, Allah said that:

"And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Do not bow down (prostrate) to the sun nor to the moon, but only bow down (prostrate) to "Allah" Who created them, if you (really) worship Him." [Quran 41:37]

and also...
They ask you about the new moons. Say: These are signs to mark fixed periods of time for mankind and for the pilgrimage (Qur'ân 2:189).

See, we have proofs and evidence and they have nothing.
(Sigh) Kids nowadays...

from my historical researches, I got to say that it's probably a propganda that have been spreading within the christian community for a long time now. The problem with them is that they dont feel the need to read over some historical facts that are available unbiased on the internet.

It's garbage. A few people will post some nonsense about Allah having once been the 'moon god'. What's funny is that they have no idea whatsoever what they're talking about, so it'll be best for you just to ignore it.
