Abrams M1A1 is currently the finest MBT in the world, but it is only as good as its crew.
Soviet tanks had some awesome advantages back during the Cold War, but with a crummy crew, even the best tank is nothing but a mobile coffin. Evidence: all the busted up Soviet tanks we obliterated during the first Gulf War.
Inferior tanks with superior crews can be devastating, as witnessed by the Israeli Army in the early years of Israel's existence.

The US M1-A1 Abrams, In my personal opinion the second choice would be the Isreali Merkava. The Merkava has great armor but doesn't have the speed or fire power the abrams does.

all around, is the abrams (US).
It has the best performance record (at least now that they fixed the problem with sand getting in the engine). It also can penetrate any known armor. and it has the best armor, and sheilding for unspent ammunition. It is also fast and has a trubine engine
