You chew and swallow the sugary juice it makes. Thats what the 5 calories is for.

5 calories from the ingredients...just like any food item...the gum base is not digestible and will pass through your system. Do not get into the habit of swallowing your gum....it can wreak havoc with the digestive system in quantity!!!!

Either way. Your body will absorb the digestible parts, and the rest will go right on through, if you get my drift... the calories come from the digestible parts of the gum.
