Yes, there's a tea shop in the desert, but there's no plain water, or anything else for that matter. You can't distill it. Basically are you better off drinking nothing, or downing the tea. (Assume it's seriously hot, and you're already very dehydrated).

It's a myth that this is a problem. Caffeine is not such a strong diuretic that drinking caffeinated tea would be harmful. Go ahead and drink it. Drink all you want. Better than going without. Your net balance is still positive.

What do you mean you can't distill it...

You dig a hole in the sand, place an empty cup in the center of the hole, pour your tea around the outside of the cup, cover the hole with a piece of bin liner or other smooth flexible sheeting (which you did remember to pack obviously...) secure the sheeting around the edges by making a sandcastle ring around it and place a good sized stone in the middle of the sheeting like the good Einsteinian taught you about (viz rubber sheets and balls converging to the center)

Come morning you'll have a lot of steam collected underside the sheet which has dribbled down to that low point underneath the rock and dripped into your cup a bit like a stalactite would.

Or would it... lol

well if there is tea shop there, then ask the person selling the tea not to make the tea but to just give him the water instead.

You put the tea under a piece of plastic and wait for it to evaporate. You lick the water droplets off the piece of plastic.

I can see your dilemia.

If you was sweating enough in the desert, you wouldn't go to the wee at all! Your body would naturally keep itself hydrated by retaining liquid.

Drinking the tea would keep you re-hydrated.

Drinking salty water would de-hydrate your body.
