It was prophecied in the Old Testament and He did it willingly.
It started in the Garden of Eden when God himself had to kill innocent 'lambs' of His own creation to cover the guilty ones. That is the pattern in the death of Christ.

The bible says we will be raised like He was at His resurrection.
THAT IS THE GOOD NEWS

Prior to the cruxifiction, forgiveness of sin required a blood sacrifice. That ritual was limited to a certain group of people. Jesus was meant to spread the religion out beyond those culteral borders, and his sacrifice would need to be the symbol for that expantion.

according to scripture, it was so that we all could be cleansed of our sins. it was decided for him. he was afraid, but he followed the scripture, because he loved the Father, and us. allistair cook said that someone was asked what the meaning of life was. i don't remember who it was that was asked that question, but his answer was, "why it is to live and to love, as if it were one". jesus lived his life loving us, trying to teach us, so much that he was willing to die for us. if he could do that out of love, i feel we should be willing to love one another as if we were one.
