I have asked many of the Muslims including Saudi Arabs, but they are not able to give me a proper explanation except that it has shown as the place of worship so that every muslims can face the direction of this Black Stone. I respectfully seek from knowledgeable Muslims why this stone has become so important since Muslims from all over the world go over to worship this with a frenzy. Please do not give any funny answers as I am very eager to know the real history behind this.

The Kaaba was a house of worship originally built by the Prophey Abraham and his son in Mecca. After many generations passed, the Arabs fell into ignorance and began idol worship, placing their idols witin the Kaaba. Many tribes from far and wide came to the Kaaba for worship, and so Mecca began to thrive as a trade city for many societies. When Prophet Muhammad established the religion of Islam, he broke all the idols in the Kaaba. At this time, Muslims were praying towards Jerusalem, but then revelation came from God, and Muslims were told to pray towards the Kaaba. This shows that the designation of direction of prayer doesn't mean that we are worshipping that place or the Black Stone--God is everywhere! We just need one unifying factor, to show discipline.

The Black stone is said to have been used by Prophet Abraham to build the original Kaaba, which is why when it was rebuilt, the Balck stone was given such significance and a place of honor. But we do not pray towars the Black Stone!

"We decreed your former qiblah (direction of prayer) only in order that We might know the Prophet's true adherents and those who were to disown him. It was indeed a hard test but not for those whom Allah guided." (Surah al-Baqarah 2:143 )
This verse shows another reason for praying towards the Kaaba--to know the true followers of Islam from the hypocrites.

We also perform Hajj (pilgrimage) to the Kaaba because this is what Prophet Abraham had done. He was commanded by God to call all of the people to gather for worship. To this day, millions of muslims answer his call, and come to the Kaaba to worship together.

Kaaba is the holy house of God built By Abraham. It is believed to be the centre under which God's throne is. Muslims don't worship the kaaba, they worship standing in the direction (facing) the Kaaba. Since Kaaba is the centre under which God's throne is , in perspective Muslims are praying in the direction believed to be the Gods Throne. Also the Kaaba and black stone are different things. The black stone is on the kaaba which has its own significance. Muslims don't pray in the direction of the black stone, they pray in the direction of the Kaaba, just that since the black stone is on the Kaaba it gives the impression. Also as written earlier by another user, Quran was not revealed in the Kaaba. Quran was revealed across many places to the Prophet, not just Kaaba.

Muslims DO NOT WORSHIP the Kaaba, they worship God (Allah in Arabic). God the Creator of all mankind (plus animals, galaxies, plants, planets...) told Abraham to build this Kaaba so that Muslims can visit it once in a life time (if they can afford the trip). This way Muslims will gather in one place, the King and the servant, they will feel equal. Do you understand the purpose? Islam teaches Muslims to be humble, a King is no better than the street sweeper, who know maybe the sweeper is a better person at heart. In short, it is called "the house of God" I hope no one will joke about this, God does not need a house, but He wants people to regard it with awe and gather from the Far East, to Morocco (this is Islam territory horizontally) they will know one another, exchange knowledge...this how we can know about other races and not mock them.

Muslims dont worship the Kaba. Muslims only say there prayers in the direction of Kaba. They go to Mazza for Haj. The significance of Kaaba to muslims is only due to Haj. And Kaba is also Home of God need to muslims. This was told to them by Muhammad (SAW). As it is home of God need muslims so its significance increases.

it seems that everyone answered the question about kaaba but ppl fogot to mention the purpose of the black stone...the black stone used to be white by the way...but in the act of piligramage or hajj muslims ask God for forgivness and they touch the black stone during this act...it is not compulsary to touch it but its better...and with the years this stone turned black from our sins...its visual proof that God has forgiven us and purified our hearts from all evil....cool isnt it??

it is where the Koran was reveiled to Mohammad. i can't believe a muslim couldn't tell you that. All Muslims are supposed to make a pilgrimage at least once in their life to this holy place. they worship in that place but they do not worship the place.

muslims donot worship the kebba.muslims worship one god called Allah and they testify that''NOONE WORTHY OF BEING WORSHIPPD BUT ALLAH AND MUHAMMED IS ALLAH`S MESSANGER''.
so we donot worshippe the kebba but it is a sign of worshipping .it was built by Ibrahim(pbuh) and we donot worshippe the black stone we just like it coz the prophet Muhammed(pbuh) touched it before his death so we love and touch in order to be like our prophet(PBUH).
so why muslims plegram to kebba everyyear???
coz we were ordered to do so coz the kebba is a symbol of the worshipping,.
