If your Installations are in different partitions, they can co-exist in the same System. Assuming you have a dual boot machine (Both 98 and XP) you can delete the XP files in XP partition (eg: 98 in C Drive and XP in D Drive) from your 98 (boot in 98) or if XP is installed as an NTFS partition and the partition cant be opened from 98, then boot the system with XP CD and delete the partition, and re create it later as FAT32. But if you had overwritten 98 with XP in the same partiton, you need to re-install 98 from the beginning.

Wait a minute. If you install Win XP then Win 98 would have been deleted. When install Win XP, Win 98 is deleted. So no need to worry.
