(Yes, it's common!)
Peanut Butters come in many styles.
The basic is Fresh Ground (no salt, sugar, added oils)
Salted is like fresh ground, and keeps longer on the shelf, and even better in the refrigerator (although the cold makes it harder to spread)
Some PB has sugar in it to give it more appeal.
The most common in store bought is a combination of PB, sugar, and salt (with some stabilizers and preservatives.)
I LIKE FRESH GROUND straight from the grinder.

If you check the label of almost all peanut butters you will find salt in the list of ingredients. Salt is on my "JIF" label. It is on the Skippy label...
Too much salt is "gross" but if you do not have any salt that part of your tastebuds will not be satisfied and it will taste like something's missing...
There are 5 distinct areas of flavor-receptors on the tongue. They taste the "5 S's"...Salt, Savory, Sweet, Sour and Spice (heat). If you are preparing a dish and it tastes like something is missing it is because one of these receptor areas is not being satisfied. Many different ingredients can be used to satisy certain receptors and some can satisfy more than one at the same time....Carrots, garlic, onions are both sweet and savory...but salt is salt...unless an ingrdient has some natural sodium it will require salt to satisfy this area of receptors. Ever notice that some jam or jelly recipes call for salt...frostings, fruit sauces...etc...You don't need enough to necessarily "taste" the salt..only enough to keep it from tasting like somethings missing.
Now, that doesn't mean that they didn't go overboard and use too much salt...I'd try another brand..."Choosy people choose....what ever they like!

If you are buying Jif, Peter Pan, Skippy, etc then there is always salt in the peanut butter, unless labeled otherwise. Pretty much a normal thing really. What I don't like in the above peanut butters is the excess sugar and other chemicals. ...so I get Smucker's natural organic.

OMG how could you eat peanut butter w/o salt! That is gross! Salt is the best and most natural preservative out there! I even put salt on some of my fruit! I guess it's a latino thing.

If it is grouse it isn't peanut butter. It's grouse. You know flappy flying things for upper class twats to shoot.
