I can't tell you. I never signed up to kill people and get paid and told it is a good thing.

Yeah I've got an answer for you Navy chappy. I've never killed anyone because I believe it is unacceptable to kill anyone unless your life is in mortal peril. Hey I like that. Has a nice ring does 'mortal peril'.

You just don't understand the question do you? Why sign up in the first place to a job where you may have to kill? That's kind of the first thing that springs to mind when you think 'hmm. Military. Wonder what I'll have to do there then?'

I sleep just fine at night knowing that I won't be killing anyone tomorrow. I'm not trying to offend anyone, genuinely I'm not, but I don't understand how people can do it. If Iraq, Afghanistan etc. were a danger to anyone, then a war would be justified. And please, anyone who says that 9/11 had anything to do with either of these countries is just kidding themselves. You want to go to war? Do it to the Saudis. They caused 9/11.

Come on man, what kind of question is that. I fly,but I don't do it for the money. No one that i know does it for the money. They do it because it's their job. Not to mention so people like yourself who never had the balls or mental discipline to join can ask these types of questions. So, I guess the real question should be how does it feel to be able to ask a retarded question because of the sacrifice that myself and all the rest of us in uniform provide for you and the rest of the country? Got a answer for that one?
Here's part 2 of my answer since you think that nobody understood your question. I'm a officer but I think that the same goes for enlisted as well. True, by joining, you know you may have to kill. That's just part of the job. And I'll half way agree with you on the no threat to the UK or America from a military stand point. But, if memory serves me correctly, wasn't there a bombing in the subway there last year? See, the enemy wears a new face these days in that he looks just like you and I.I wont give you the God- Honor- Country answer because I joined because I wanted to fly and come from a miltary family. But to give you a honest answer, no...it feels shitty to drop a laser guided bomb on a target in the middle of the city because you know others besides the "bad guys" were killed. Now, on the reverse of that...in the air where it's just me and you--you're done because then it is mortal peril, as you called it, because then it comes down to my life or yours, and I'm just not ready to die yet. If I was dead, I couldn't sit here and answer these questions could I?

Where to start:
"You just don't understand the question do you? Why sign up in the first place to a job where you may have to kill? That's kind of the first thing that springs to mind when you think 'hmm. Military. Wonder what I'll have to do there then?' And please don't say protecting freedom/democracy. No-ones a threat to the US or UK. I don't see people lining up to invade us do you?"
--- Nobody's a threat to us? If that's true, it's because there are those willing to fight and die for us that made this the case. And it will rapidly cease to be unless we continually defend ourselves here and against our enemy's on other shores. It's better than doing so on our own doorstep.
I can't tell you. I never signed up to kill people and get paid and told it is a good thing.

-- This is true, except for one detail. If The lives of those I love, and my very home are in mortal peril. "Home" also includes this entire country.
"You just don't understand the question do you? Why sign up in the first place to a job where you may have to kill? That's kind of the first thing that springs to mind when you think 'hmm. Military. Wonder what I'll have to do there then?' "
--Becaue this land we call home is worth it.. And the people in our country deserve to be protected. The possibility of having to kill is something one has to come to terms with. It's not something most people enjoy thinking about, or actuall doing. But the alternative of not doing so means that someone not as peaceloving as yourself is going to have free hand to kill you or your family in lieu of doing what they tell you to. \
Fact is, our military is subordinate to our government. The government makes the decision on when and where to fight. The soldier joins to serve, and depends on our civilian leadership to say "when" It's this way because it simply MUST be this way. The alternative is what's referred to as a military dictatorship.
Here's a quote to illustrate the point: War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

So, when my husband is out on patrol and comes under fire from three different directions, IED's are waiting for him up the road, RPG's are literally skipping across the hood of Humvee, does that count as "mortal peril" enough for you to allow him to shoot back? People don't join the military and then just walk outside and shoot people at random. They kill people in combat. Combat, to me, qualifies as "mortal peril". And for the time away from home, the personal risk, and the physical strain that accompanies being in the military, the pay is hardly worth it.

And aren't you lucky that you'll never have to worry about going into the Military because of those who have the guts to actually do it! Because of them, you won't be drafted.
I think you need to get laid! You seem little angry and tense. Some really good sex might help that!
By the way, I love that my husband will be put through law school on the GI bill he earned in the Military...Do we feel guilty, especially him? HELL NO! People like him, and every other Armed Service Member protects your sorry ***!

To knowing kill (like snipers do) requires a kind of person who is totally devoid of conscience, regardless of how the military, police, or anyone else sugar coats it. This person is strictly a machine, rating on the very end of what can be considered human.

You are an idiot. Please go play in traffic. My husband is in the army, and let me tell you, when people like you say ignorant things like that, while my husband is in Iraq, making sure that you CAN say it, it makes me sad to think that he is risking his life so people like you can judge him. You know what though, we will sleep at night with pride. How about you?
