I have a friend who lives in Hull and we used to visit every easter. I loved the Docks and the City Centre, The Deep is fantastic for kids.
HOWEVER, the only bad thing I ever came across was trying to get a taxi home after a night out I had to wait 1 hour 45 mins!!!
The housing is cheap and I'd love to move there.
NO HULL IS NOT A CRAP TOWN!

I don't know Hull, other than a one day visit for an interview, but it seems to me your problem is your isolated geographical location. Also, your fishing heritage means there is no tradition of people from the area around coming in to make Hull a centre.
Hull has a lot of interesting history, for instance William Wilberforce who largely got slavery abolished was your MP. Also, I thought you have fishing heritage. And overnight ferries with good entertainment aboard.
East Yorkshire has some beautiful countryside for you to get out to.
I suspect there are worse places in Britain than Hull, but perhaps it would be tactful not to mention which ones I have in mind. But for instance Hull has more character than a number of the New Towns founded in the years after the Second World War.
Like you I have lived in a number of places around Britain. In my experience you can avoid anywhere being rubbish if you actively seek things to do.

I have lived in Hull for 2 years and am unable to see why it is labelled as a 'crap' town. I have lived in many places throughout the UK and Hull takes some beating.

Places are what you make of them. Personally I like Hull. It was a lovely sunny day when I visited and that's how I remember it. I think of Aberdeen as a bloody awful miserable place but maybe that was because it was pissing down and freezing cold when I went there but it is probably a great place really hehehe

YES it is. I lived in Beverley for a while and some of the surrounding villages there are beautiful but Hull isn't. Education is also appaling and don't get me started on shopping.
