I hope there won't be WWIII. Muslims and Christians historically have had trouble uniting simply because of different beliefs. Although I used to work with a woman who was Muslim and I'm Christian. She and I became really good friends irregardless of our different beliefs.

Muslims, Christians, and Jews have often united throughout history. Mohammed himself created a confederation of peoples in arabia, including Jewish and Christian people. Mohammed was heavily influenced by the ideas of Jewish and Christian traders, as well as by Arabian paganism, which had good values he sought to re-emphasize in his culture. In more modern times, these three groups lived together well in Sarjevo and in Lebanon (of all places!) These groups also get along well in the USA.

So, what's the problem? "Leaders" who exploit their people's weakness, ignorance, and fear, in order to divide and conquer. Oh, yeah, and another problem is that there are whacked out fundies in Amerca who, ignoring their own teachings that no one knows the hour, insist upon trying to bring about the end of the world.
