recently my dane/mastiff Wicket was hit by a car and we believe she broke or fractured her pelvic bone. we've been caring for her ourselves as best we can making sure to give her antibiotics in case of infection. but recently she developed a fever, her stool was already runny but it turned liquid and she vomited after we gave her her last pain medication. i am very concerned for her she is like my first kid, but i am a new mother with a one month of baby and i'm out of work surviving off my husbands income i can't afford what the vet is asking to take proper care of her and i'm afraid i am going to loose her, can anyone help me? is there some kind of charity for wounded and sick animals??

I have no soapbox upon which to climb and condemn. Knowing what it's like to be poor and have pets, I can and do sympathise with you and your situation. You obviously care a great deal for your dog, or you would not be posting this question.

I would first reiterate what others have said here: get Wicket to the vet immediately. Try to find a vet in the area who will work with you if your regular vet will not, even one who will just be willing to bill you rather than expect a full one-time payment. Getting your beloved companion to the vet is the first and most important step. (I would also recommend going over the guidelines for each assistance program to which you intend to apply ASAP; some have very specific guidelines as to at which point in the treatment process they can help you.)

Below I have listed the website of United Animal Nations, the Lifeline program of which may be able to provide you with a grant to assist you with the costs of the care of Wicket. On the website they also have tips and advice for how to raise additional funds, if neccessary, to cover the veterinary bill--as well as links to other organisations that may help (such as the IMOM site listed above by Kat, the "Emergencies" section of which may be of particular interest to you). Good luck and best wishes for a healthy animal friend.

This dog is in desperate need of emergency care. I have nothing against people trying to heal animals theirselves, but in situations like this u need a vet. You will loose this dog u say u love so much if u do not get the medical attention needed. What kind of pain medication are u giving this dog and what kind of antibiotics are u giving it if u have not taken it to the vet. She is having reactions to the pain medication is what it sounds like discontinue use as u are over dosing the dog if it is making it sick. Get pedialyte and get it down the dog so it does not dehydrate. My vet has recommended an antibiotiv called twin pen 2 a friend of mine that could not afford a vet and it is an injectible under the skin form of pennicillan.

please find a way 2 get the dog to the vet even if u have to borrow money from someone.

Gee, it sounds like it's too late. How sad. By the time you get up the money it'll be too late. I would consider putting it to sleep. But, I do know they don't like those places because of that. It's like you going to prison. It's too bad they can't just do that at the dog's home where they feel safe and loved. And then just go in their sleep. Some dogs will run away and find a quiet place to die when they're real sick. Seems many now get cancer. You might just be able to make it as comfortable as possible and it will pass naturally. I would still call a vet anyway. But, they might try to talk you in. I hear there's a bill for disposal too. Some towns may not allow you to bury animals on your property which I think is ridiculous.

no vet will turn away a very sick dog there is always a vet that will allow you to settle a bill in installments. Can i ask, if your dog does end up passing away will you get another dog?, if yes, then the cost of a new dog will be more than a vet fee.

Don't get a dog if you cant care for it. Anyways heres some options.

1) take it to the vet and put it to sleep
2) turn it in to your local spca. Won't be yours anymore but will get great medical care and be sent so someone who can take care of her
3) take her to a dif vet. work out options.
4) let her suffer and possibly die

There are places out there that do help sick animals for cheaper....just there are so few, depending on where you live there probably isnt one in your state. Ask around.

She could have serious internal injuries. Most vets are quite willing to work with you in situations like this on a payment plan. Some even have charge account companies that will open a line of credit for you. Try calling your local humane society, animal shelter or rescue groups to find out which vet will be most willing to work with you. But, you need to get her to a vet asap.

Hi! I won't hassle you and be mean b/c I know what you are going through. You don't want to loose your pet. But if you know that you no longer can provide proper care for your pet you shouldn't make the dog suffer anymore than what it has to. I would turn the dog over to the SPCA and let them care for it. In some cases they will return the dog. Good luck! Please find the dog some med. attention!

Take her to a vet. would you like it if you was hit by a car and your family done you this way? Shes probably in pain and she cant tell you. A lot of vets will let you make payments if you cant afford to pay in full. And if you rally want to keep her take her now....

sounds like she has internal injuries or serious infections going on Im so sorry. But you need to get her to the vet ASAP if animal services find out about this you can be held liable for animal neglect or cruelty because it is your pet and you didnt get it proper medical treatment thats how it is in florida this happened to my brother he was in the same situation a couple years ago.Get to the vet and set up payment plans or if its to severe or the damage is irreversable they may suggest putting him down

It might be too late, but call Petco, get their health insurance through a phone call.

It is only $12.00 a month. They will pay I think 80% of the bill.

Go to your vet. Tell him about the insurance and your money situation. Ask him to post date the visit. I believe he will, his main concern is for your dog.
