You know, if you think about it - If they are putting their child in day care for 12 hours a day and don't really have to, then chances are, they don't want to have much to do with that child anyway. So, isn't the child better off being in a home or day care facility where he/she is getting one on one attention, snacks, education, etc?

i don't think it's right but i don't think it's neglect either. in fact they are making sure there is someone to care for and educate the child. It'd be the same thing as having a full time Nanny.

People should want to care for and educate their own children but some just don't want the hassle. I can see sending your child to daycare if you're going to college or going to work or if you have a special needs child that takes up all your extra attention but not if you're sitting around on your bum all day.

Also, Technically (in most places anyway) a child can only be in daycare for 10 hours a day. That gives room for a 9 hour shift with 30min each way for commuting.

Legally it is not neglect, but by all other standards it is. Some parents are too wrapped up in their own personal lives that they con't take the time to look after their own children. At least these parents have enough sense to let other people raise their children rather than the children being totally neglected by everyone.

It depends on the situation. I do not work, i do go to school full time though. At this point my son isnt in day care, my sister watches him. I would like to put him in day care though just for the exposer to other children. We moved to florida from indiana, and in indiana he had a lot of my friends children to play with. Now he is lucky to see other kids once a month, even when we take him to the park their are no kids there. I don't know where they all are, but i think day care would be good for him so he could have kids to play with.

Not by definition. Your neglecting your relationship with the child but not the child intself. The way i look at it is when that child acts out because they have no respect for the parent that didnt have time to spend with them it will be there own fault.

That bothers me so much. I put my son in daycare while I work. He is the last dropped off and the first one picked up. I think that is sad. I want to spend as much time as possible with him, I wish I didn't even have to send him to school. It irritates me.

I have a neighbor that did that.....she would put her son, who's a toddler, in day care for 12 hours and called it "school"....and she kept her infant daughter at home. I completely agree, it is neglect.
