Jill and Alabama girl have the best of the 22 answers so far listed...normally I don't bother answering when there are THAT many answers already there....but it's very important to DEFINITELY GET TREATED (easy 1 tablet treatment available for years) AND...have ALL FAMILY AND OTHER CLOSE CONTACT Members treated as these pinworms are relatively easy to transmit (and their eggs can even be spread by respiratory spread -- especially if unwashed hands are used to cough into, wipe noses, etc. Other than a bother (and mental stress -- the "ewwwww" factor!), these parasites are relatively harmless overall. They ARE a parasite technically, but tend to live right in the anus and not go up far into the colon to take away nutrients (like TAPEWORMS can and do...which these are NOT!). Also.."ringworm" was mentioned...is a rash caused by a FUNGUS and not a worm at all!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Does the area around your anus itch very bad at night? If it does, you have pinworms. Their natural lifespan is about 2 weeks and will go away without treatment. I know because I had them several times as a child and never had treatment. You have to wash your sheets every day though to keep from getting them again. You can buy some over the counter treatment for faster removal.

yep, you ate worm eggs, you need to buy worming tablets from your phamacy and treat your entire family. Don't forget to always wash your hands after handling animals, before you eat and after going to the toilet.

I hate to say this but it sounds like you either have tape worm - it can be caused by eating undercooked beef, for example.
i'd go to the GP- doctor - if I was you, or at least check out http://www.netdoctor.com/com/about.html
